Phoenix Trust
Sandy Chubb (Director)

Founded
in 1988, The Prison Phoenix Trust encourages prisoners in
the development of their spiritual lives through the disciplines
of meditation and yoga. In the belief that opportunity for
growth exists in a prison cell, they offer individual support
to prisoners through teaching, correspondence, books and newsletters
- and to prison staff too, working with people of any faith
or none and honouring all religions. The Trust finds and trains
qualified yoga teachers for prison work and currently 112
classes are being taught in 80 prisons throughout the UK and
Eire, together with 14 classes for prison staff. PPT Scottish
and Irish Links have been set up and run by local coordinators
to promote the Trust's work in those countries. Feedback from
prisoners, staff, teachers and volunteers alike testifies
to the truly remarkable and worthwhile achievements of this
important initiative.
