John Jopling has been an active 'social entrepreneur' for many years. He has recently been instrumental in setting up three important initiatives all aiming to advance sustainability, local economics and a new participatory approach to democracy.

He founded the Sustainable London Trust in 1995 to work towards helping London become a sustainable city playing a full part in achieving the goals of Agenda 21. In 1998 John helped set up FEASTA, the Dublin-based Foundation for Economics of Sustainability, a network of creative activists which continues to ask difficult questions and wok towards practical solutions. His latest project involves the formation of the World Wide Democracy Network to develop an alternative paradigm of democracy and identify some basic principles to guide the political action necessary to build just and sustainable societies.
