VISIONS OF A NEW RENAISSANCE - Globalisation with Wisdom

"We look forward to a world founded on four essential human freedoms… of speech... of worship... from want… from fear… anywhere in the world" (Franklin D. Roosevelt 1941)

Globalisation is happening. The world is increasingly interdependent, and aware of it.

Many have identified deficiencies in the emerging world 'system' and its values - too often ecological sustainability and social justice are sacrificed. The time has come to make it work wisely, with true values - for all people.

Our speakers are deeply concerned with aspects of the process to date. They suggest what needs to be done, and how we can each play our part.

SPEAKERS

Ann Pettifor - Jubilee Plus

Ann Pettifor co-founded and led the Jubilee 2000 campaign to cancel poor countries’ debts. She now directs the Jubilee Plus think tank, researching and influencing the follow-up.

The current 'system has led to unacceptable levels of historic debt, which countries must pay at the expense of today's social and healthcare provision for their people.

Ann discusses to what degree the international 'Jubilee' movement has made progress, and identifies where the pressure for change now needs to be focussed.

John Bunzl - The Simultaneous Policy

Author of The Simultaneous Policy, John Bunzl puts forward a way to ‘build global consensus for an equitable and sustainable future’.

Causes of today’s global ecological and social problems are rooted in the materialistic competitive capitalist system, which actually prevents individual nations from moving towards co-operative solutions.

John shows a way to make national and international progress, moving towards a more co-operative world based on spiritual values. We can all help this process.
