"James
Robertson is the leading new economics writer in the UK... 'Transforming
Economic Life' will be seen as the first economics text of the twenty-first
century." - Ed Mayo, New
Economics Foundation
How
can we reshape our economic system-which now transfers wealth from
poor to rich, marginalises individuals, communities and cultures,
damages the natural environment, and denies all sense of the sacred,
so that it will meet the needs of people and the Earth in the 21st
century?
In this Briefing, James Robertson outlines measures for building
a healthier and more equal world. He identifies key ways in which
people can work together to transform the economics of food and
farming, work and livelihoods, local development, travel and transport,
energy, technology and international trade.

James
Robertson studied classics, history
and philosophy at Oxford. He worked in Whitehall and accompanied
Harold Macmillan on his prime-ministerial "Wind of Change"
tour of Africa in 1960. After directing the Inter-Bank Research
Organisation and contributing to enquiries on government, civil
service, parliament and London's future as a financial centre, he
became an independent writer and lecturer. Since 1975 he and his
wife Alison Pritchard (a Schumacher Society Council member), have
issued the twice-yearly Turning Point (latterly Turning Point 2000)
newsletter. They helped to set up The Other Economic Summit (TOES)
and the New Economics Foundation in 1984/5.
